Dear 2009

Welcome.

Well, I wont lie. You have a tough act to follow, 2008 was pretty stinking awesome. I couldn't have planned it better beforehand. Now dont get intimidated, I have high hopes for you too. Life as we know it will change in more ways than one. Baby boy will come under your watch, a long awaited graduation will finally occur, hopefully a home to call my own in there, and maybe a few suprises for us both.

I will miss '08, it was a good time, but I look forward to you '09 with the same enthusiasm I look back with. If you can, could you please come and go a little slower than 2008 did.

Ok, so I am going to get all our pictures of the last half of our trip through NZ uploaded in the next few days and just be done with it! Here it goes...

a visit from Justin's dad

Justins dad was able to come visit us in NZ for about 10 days over Christmas. We flew down to Wellington and spent the whole time driving back up to Paihia. The highlights are:

Te Papa Museum in Wellington
Hiking up Ruapehu Volcano on Christmas day: Hide was having so much fun sliding down the snow, and finding a christmas snowman Trout fishing on Lake Taupo: taupo is world famous for trout and fly fishing, our biggest catch was over 50cm, then our hotel cooked them up for us and we feasted! It was so good! Our boat hire also took us to these Maori rock carvings on the lake. We also went kayaking, but I forgot my camera... boo!
Rotorua- Hide grew up in a geothermal town in Japan, so the sulfur smell of rotten eggs soothed him. I on the other hand, with this superpowers sense of smell, spent the whole day trying not to vomit. Justin was the chief at the Maori show we watched, he did the hongi (no, hes not about to kiss the guy) which is a traditional way of saying hello by touching noses. Its their way of kissing cheeks. It litterally translates to "sharing of breath".
Going out to Bridal Veil falls and Raglan: no surf, again, so we didnt stay long...

a day for Justin

He finally got to play with a full sized kite in Gisborne. It took a few days of waiting for the right conditions, but isnt he too cute when hes so happy!

the belly

Just a quick post. We are having a blast and down to our last week away from home, so expect lots of filling in when we get home! But, heres the belly pic. This was about 21 weeks. I am feeling him all the time, which is a really weird feeling for sure.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
